Panel discussion
Memory and identity:
a long story

Moderator: Michael Cronin With Albert Memmi (France), Anne Enright (Ireland), Béatrice Commengé (France), Liam Mac Cóil (Ireland).

Is memory more important now than ever before? In a world that is constantly speeding up we seem to hold onto our memories as the sole source of our identity and to have become overly obsessed with remembering the past. Is memory always unjust because it is by definition selective?

Panel discussion
Memory: rewriting the
past to invent the future?

Moderator: Liam O’Muirthile With Régine Robin (France), Antoni Libera (Poland),
Marina Carr (Ireland), Pavel Verner (Czech Republic).

Literature seems to be based on different kinds of memory-individual, collective, conscious or unconscious. Is memory a duty, a burden or a privilege for a writer? Is the future born out of the way we remember or is the way we remember always a function of our present needs and future anxieties?
