Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill was born in Lancashire, England, in 1952,
but farmed out to her aunt in the Kerry Gaeltacht when she
was five. She published her first book of poetry in Irish
An Dealg Droighinn in 1981 and has published regularly
ever since. Her most recent books of poetry are Cead
Aighnis (1998) and The 50-minute Mermaid (2008).
A book of non-fiction prose Selected Essays was
published in 2005.
Nuala Ní
Dhomhnaill held the Heimbold Chair in Irish Studies at
Villanova University in 2001 and has taught at Boston
College and New York University. She has received many
scholarships, prizes, and bursaries and has also won
numerous international awards for works which have been
translated into French, German, Polish, Italian, Norwegian,
Estonian, Turkish, Japanese and English. She is a member of
Aosdána and was Ireland Professor of Poetry (2001-2004) and
the first Professor of Irish Language Poetry.

de cinq ans, avec qui elle a vécu dans le Kerry irlandophone.
Depuis la parution en 1981 de An Dealg Droighinn, son
premier recueil de poèmes en irlandais, elle a été publiée
régulièrement. Ses deux derniers livres de poésie
s'intitulent Cead Aighnis (1998) et The 50-minute Mermaid
(2008).Elle a également écrit une oeuvre non-fictionnelle
intitulée Selected Essays, parue en 2005.
Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill a enseigné au
Boston College ainsi qu'à l'Université de New York. En 2001,
elle s'est vu attribuer la chaire Heimbold de l'Université
Villanova, dans le domaine des études irlandaises. Lauréate
de plusieurs prix et bourses, elle a aussi reçu de
nombreuses récompenses internationales pour ses oeuvres
traduites en français, en allemand, en polonais, en italien,
en norvégien, en estonien, en turc, en japonais et en
anglais.
Membre de l'Aosdána, elle a été titulaire de
la Chaire de Poésie d'Irlande (2001-2004) et fut la première
personne à enseigner la poésie en langue irlandaise.
