Seamus Heaney was born in County Derry in Northern Ireland. Death of a Naturalist, his first collection, appeared in 1966, and since then he has published poetry, criticism and translations which have established him as one of the leading poets of his generation. He has twice won the Whitbread Book of the Year, for The Spirit Level (1996) and Beowulf (1999). In 1995 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Human Chain, his twelfth collection of poems, was published in 2010 and was awarded the Forward Poetry Prize.

Seamus Heaney est né dans le comté de Derry en Irlande du Nord. Depuis Death of a Naturalist, son premier recueil de poèmes paru en 1966, il a publié des oeuvres de poésie, des critiques littéraires et des traductions qui l’ont distingué comme l’un des poètes majeurs de sa génération. Il s’est vu remettre le prix annuel du livre Whitbread à deux reprises pour The Spirit Level, 1996 et sa traduction de Beowulf (1999). En 1995, il reçoit le Prix Nobel de littérature. Son douzième recueil, Human Chain, publié en 2010, a obtenu le prix Forward Poetry.
